April 10, 2014- Observation #2

April 10, 2014

The bulb has begun to grow a shoot. This new growth is between one and two centimeters. The roots are thriving. They have grown to the bottom of the jar and have begun to creep back up and the bulb seems healthy. The water level is being kept just under the bulb. The hormone Ethylene must be present because it stimulates shoot and root growth and brings the bulb out of its dormant state. Cytokinin could also cause shoot initiation.
